Why here
A small island with a lot of tattoo shops.
Most of them will tattoo you anything. I'll tattoo you one thing, properly.
Malta has no shortage of studios, and plenty of them do good work across a wide range of styles. I went the other way. Sixteen years in, I tattoo geometric and ornamental work exclusively — sacred geometry, mandalas, dotwork, blackwork and the large ornamental pieces that take a body part rather than a corner of one.
That narrowness is the point. When you spend every week of the year drawing the same language, you stop guessing. You know how a mandala has to sit on a shoulder so it still reads when the arm drops. You know how much negative space a dotwork gradient needs to survive a decade of Maltese sun. You know which lines to thicken now so the piece is still sharp when you're fifty.
It also means I'm the wrong artist for a lot of ideas, and I'll tell you that early rather than take the booking. If you want a colour portrait or a traditional flash piece, Malta has excellent people for it — they're just not me.

Sacred Geometry

Dotwork
Shading stacked one dot at a time. Soft gradients and deep blacks with a hand-built texture that machine shading can't fake.
Blackwork
Heavy solid black used as structure rather than filler — bold shapes, hard edges, and negative space doing half the work.
Large-scale projects
Sleeves, backs, full legs and bodysuits, planned as one design and built across a series of sessions rather than sold as a single appointment.
Cover-ups & rework
Existing work absorbed into a new geometric design. Not every piece can be covered cleanly — I'll tell you honestly what's possible before you commit.

The studio is Massa Tattoo Social Club, 11 Triq Il-Knisja Il-Qadima, Birkirkara. Central Malta, which in practice means about fifteen minutes from Valletta, ten from Sliema and St Julian's, and reachable on most of the island's main bus routes.
There's street parking in the surrounding roads. Come as you are — eat beforehand, bring headphones, bring a friend if you want one. Sessions are private and unhurried; there's no queue behind you and nobody rushing the chair.
Everything runs by appointment. That's not gatekeeping — it's because the drawing happens before you arrive, and a custom design can't be produced while you wait.

Travelling in
Getting tattooed while you're here.
A good share of my chair goes to people who fly in. It works well — as long as you plan it around the two things Malta does to healing skin. The full checklist is in the guide to getting a tattoo abroad.
Send the idea before you book the flight
Custom work needs design time — usually one to three weeks between the consultation and the session, longer for a sleeve. The earlier your enquiry lands, the better the drawing you sit down to.
Book it for the end of the trip
A fresh tattoo can't go in the sea and can't sit in direct sun. Tattoo on day one of a beach holiday and you'll spend the week covered up or wrecking the work. Tattoo on the last day and you fly home healing properly.
Plan for the heat
Maltese summer is hard on healing skin — sweat, salt and sun all work against fresh ink. Between May and September I'll walk you through a tighter aftercare routine than I'd give someone healing through a northern European winter.
Build it over more than one visit if it's big
Sleeves and backs don't finish in a week. Several clients run their projects across annual trips — we map the whole design at the start, then take a chunk each visit. It keeps the piece coherent instead of stitched together.

Consultation
At the Birkirkara studio, or a video call if you're abroad. We work out what the piece actually is, where it sits and how many sessions it needs.
Design
I draw it for your body and nobody else's. You see it before the appointment and we adjust until it's right.
The session
Stencil mapped to anatomy, then the work. Private, unhurried, with breaks whenever you need them.
Healing
You leave with a clear aftercare plan and a way to reach me if anything looks off. Touch-ups on my work are part of the deal.

How much does a tattoo cost in Malta?
Studio rates across Malta vary widely. My own work is quoted per project rather than per hour once I've seen the idea, the placement and the size, because a custom design involves drawing time before any needle work starts. Small single-session pieces are quoted as a flat price; sleeves, backs and legs are quoted as a multi-session project with a session rate. Where is the studio in Malta?

English throughout — enquiry, consultation and the session itself. Maltese and Italian are both widely spoken at the studio too.
